‘Welcome to my personal bar’ by Giovanni Balzarani

‘Group of alcoholic bottles and glass jars with candies, in hyperrealism style; on Arches 640gr/mq paper and Daniel Smith, Schmincke and Sennelier colours.’

Judge's Commments (Jean Haines): It was so difficult to choose a winner, the standard of entries was so high however this watercolour is technically very accomplished, the subject matter is intriguing and the artist uses light very effectively within the work.

Lisa: How long have you been painting for and is watercolour your favourite medium?

Giovanni: I’ve painted since I was 9 years old, so I’ve been making art for almost 30 years. I started with various techniques; firstly charcoal, then coloured pencils, oils and a little acrylics, but watercolour was always the medium that I used most regularly from the beginning.
